Shades of Gray Window Tinting
How much do services cost?
Our pricing is determined by several factors including the type of vehicle, the film selected, and the complexity of the installation. We encourage you to contact us for a complimentary phone estimate tailored to your specific needs. How long does it take to tint the windows on my vehicle?
The duration of a window tinting service can vary. On average, an installation takes about an hour. However, factors such as the vehicle type, number of installers, unexpected challenges, and removal of old tint can affect the total time required. Why do I see bubbles (right after install)?
The presence of bubbles immediately after installation is normal. These are caused by moisture trapped between the glass and the film. Over time, with exposure to sunlight, these bubbles will naturally disappear.Does the tint go on the inside or outside of the windows?
We apply the tint film to the interior surface of your vehicle's windows. This means that external factors like car washes or rain won't affect the tint. However, we recommend avoiding cleaning the interior of the windows for approximately one week after installation. Are the rear windshields tinted in one piece?
At Shades of Gray, we use a heat shrinking technique to prepare and install rear windshield tint as a single piece for 99% of vehicles we service. This method ensures a seamless and professional finish. How long do I need to keep my windows up?
To ensure proper adhesion and curing of the tint, it's crucial to keep your windows in the fully closed position for a minimum of three days following the installation. My car is equipped with a feature that drops the window slightly when I open the door…will this cause a problem for tinting?
This feature doesn't pose any issues for window tinting. Our experienced technicians are familiar with this common mechanism and will ensure that the tint is applied with the windows in the fully raised position, preventing any gaps when the doors are closed.Do I need felt moldings installed?
In most cases, felt moldings are unnecessary. While some shops may recommend them as an additional service, we have effective methods to prevent scratching without incurring extra costs. We'll advise you if your vehicle specifically requires felt moldings. What's with the dot-matrix pattern around my windows?
The dot-matrix pattern is a common feature on many vehicle windows, particularly rear windshields. When tint is initially applied, this pattern may appear uneven. However, as the tint dries, it typically settles to create a uniform, framed appearance.Does it cost extra to remove old film?
Removing old window tint is a time-consuming process that often requires several hours of work. Special care is needed when removing tint from rear windshields with defrosting elements to avoid damage. Due to the labor involved, there is an additional charge for this service, which we can provide upon request.
